Ovarro Engima

Ovarro Enigma is an advanced acoustic leak detection system used primarily in water distribution networks. It is designed by Ovarro, a company specializing in smart network monitoring and leak detection technologies for utilities.

What the Device Does

The Enigma system uses correlation technology to detect and pinpoint leaks in underground water pipes without excavation.
It works by:

  • Using acoustic sensors (loggers) that attach magnetically to valves or fittings on the pipeline.
  • Each logger records the sound (acoustic noise) of water escaping from leaks overnight when network noise is low.
  • The data is then correlated — timing differences between sensors reveal the exact leak position, often within a meter.

The data can be collected manually or sent automatically (depending on model, e.g., Enigma3m uses remote communication).

Main Functions

  • Leak detection and location in buried water mains.
  • Permanent monitoring of high-risk or critical network zones.
  • Noise analysis to identify emerging leaks before they become major bursts.
BenefitDescription
High accuracyCorrelation-based detection pinpoints leaks precisely, even over long distances or on plastic pipes.
Non-invasiveNo digging required — sensors attach externally.
24/7 monitoringContinuous listening for leaks helps utilities act early.
Water loss reductionRapid identification means less wasted water and reduced repair costs.
Operational efficiencySaves time, labor, and network disruption compared to manual leak hunts.
